Let me ask you something that’s been on my mind a lot lately:
Why are we doing things that don’t really MATTER? 🤷🏼♀️
If you’re new here, welcome. (There are SO MANY new faces around here — thank you for joining this growing community.) I’m so glad you’re here!
If it doesn’t bring meaning, peace, connection, or at least a spark of joy…what’s the point? 🤔
That thought really hit me while I was recently on a solo trip to Ireland. I found more of what I always do on these soul-o trips…presence. I met people from Manchester, London, Texas, Germany, and Canada. And somehow I felt more connected to myself than I had in awhile.

HERE’S MY IRELAND HOT LIST: My Top Trip Picks
So many of you reached out on socials for tips on Ireland, so here’s the good stuff for you with links and everything:
STAY: I stayed at the Moxy in Dublin and did NOT like it. If I go back, I’ll stay at the The Shelbourne. I had dinner at their restaurant, The Saddle Room, and it was divine!
EAT: My favorite meal was probably at WILDE at the Westbury Hotel. (This hotel could be another option, I’m just a Bonvoy brat!) For breakfast, I LOVED TANG — their green juice is made in house. On Sunday afternoon, I enjoyed live music and a lovely glass of wine at Café en Seine. Another sweet spot I visited is right across the street called The Ivy. There’s also a super cute spot that’s a pub on the lower level and more of a speakeasy vibe upstairs. It’s called Peruke & Periwig. For a traditional Irish pub, skip the tourist traps and visit The Celt. This is a great spot for a Guinness, some fish & chips, and some traditional live Irish music.
DO: I personally didn’t love the Book of Kells Experience, but most people say it’s a must do. You’ll need to make sure you get a ticket and show up at your specific ticket time. The Irish Whiskey Museum was a little more up my alley. 😂 🥃 I grabbed a ticket for 28 euro that included a tasting of 4 different Irish whiskeys at the end. Some people were able to walk in and get a last minute ticket on the spot.
While I had planned on doing a day trip to Galway and the Cliffs of Moher, a 13 hour day trip on a bus didn’t sound super appealing. So, instead I did about a half-day trip to Howth. It’s an adorable little harbor town only a 30 minute train ride from Dublin and the cost was only 5 euro round trip! You can grab a bite to eat — they’re known for their seafood chowder — and/or get some ice cream after hiking the cliffs. (I did both!) You can choose from 3 different paths to take: I chose one that took about 2.5 hours round trip.
PRO TIP: Plan for 2 days in Dublin and then get out and explore more of the country. And GREAT NEWS! You now save $20 on your annual subscription of Thrifty Traveler Premium with my DISCOUNT CODE. (This is how I booked my flight from MSP > DUB in Delta One for only 50,000 points!) You get customized flight deals — domestic, international, dollars, and points — delivered right to your inbox.
